ASK FOR HELPIt seems like the holiday season is either the best time of the year or the worst time of the year depending on who you ask. For many people, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, or any other holidays that fall late in the year are filled with joy and family. But for some, this time of year can be unfathomably difficult and lonely. With the holiday season rapidly approaching, today’s blog is all about tips you can use to help you have the happiest holiday season possible. And always remember, our team at Revibe Therapy in Winter Park and Lake Nona is here to help however we can. We offer anxiety therapy, Cognitive Hypnotherapy therapy for depression, and much more. Don’t hesitate to reach out for help!

ASK FOR HELP

Speaking of reaching out for help, that’s the first tip on our list! There is a lot going on toward the end of the year. You may feel like you have to take care of everything — cooking, cleaning, hosting, baking, entertaining, etc. But the reality is, it shouldn’t all fall on you. In an effort to take care of your own mental health and have a happier holiday season, it’s important that you know your limits and reach out for help. This doesn’t only apply to asking for help through Revibe Therapy’s anxiety therapy. This means delegating tasks to other people and asking for those around you to pick up some slack. There is no shame in putting family and friends to work, in fact, everyone should have to pull their weight!

TAKE SOME ME-TIME

Another way you can take care of your mental health during the holidays is by taking some time for yourself. You may be so busy running around that you may not feel like you have time for any “me-time.” But it’s important that you make time. Whether it be a half-hour soaking in the tub, taking a 20-minute nap, or taking yourself out to dinner, even the smallest amount of me-time can make a world of difference. Sure, helping others is noble and fulfilling, but keep in mind that you will be much more helpful to other people if you take care of yourself first and are in a healthy mental state.

SET HEALTHY BOUNDARIES

Setting healthy boundaries, in general, can feel like an impossible task. Setting healthy boundaries during the holiday season? Forget about it! In all seriousness, though, boundaries are very important for your mental health. While it may be tough to tell your in-laws that you don’t want to accommodate them staying for a full month, if it’s what you need, the tough conversation will absolutely be worth it in the end. There is no shame in looking out for your own mental wellbeing and telling people what is and isn’t okay this time of year. We are certain that your family will appreciate spending time with a happier, more present version of yourself over a resentful version that didn’t set healthy boundaries.

HAVE SOME FUN!

Take a second, breathe, and remember that this is a time that is supposed to be fun! Rather than stressing about taking care of everything, try to join in on some fun with family and friends. Spend some time watching a movie with the family, play some board games, or get some marshmallow shooters and have a marshmallow fight! Having a little fun now and again will do wonders for your mental health.

Unable to see family and friends this holiday season? Try video chatting with them when you are feeling lonely or treat yourself to a fun activity you enjoy!

TRY TO LET GO OF THINGS YOU CAN’T CONTROL

One of the most important aspects of taking care of your mental health this holiday season is letting go of the things you can’t control. Things like bad weather, the behavior of other people, and minor mishaps are simply outside of your control. If you spend all of your time stressing and worrying about factors that you have no control over, you will drive yourself mad! Not to mention that you will be so busy trying to control everything that you may just forget to relax and enjoy the time of year with your loved ones.
